Legumi version 2.0 is live!


Joyous morrows! Legumi v2.0 is now live!

This is a pretty substantial update to Legumi. It’s no secret that I finished the game in a bit of a rush before, so this update is a sort-of “What I had imagined in the first place” scenario. There are countless quality of life improvements, some bug fixes, a few major tweaks, and an additional major mode! I’ll go through each of these one by one. 


 Major tweaks

  • Gamepad support!
  • Four separate save files as opposed to one!
  • WIDESCREEN! Incidentally, also LONGSCREEN if you happen to have a vertical monitor.
  • Your best score is saved along with a date, if it is of any consequence to you. 
  • You no longer have to “FIND OUT” what a certain enemy’s hunger and bravery are, you can just see that information by default. (But you can still unlock that functionality with a cheat code for an extra challenge)
  • Pause menu redesigned, now has information on items that you’ve purchased, and the number of unique treasures you’ve found. 
  • The new Champions Labyrinth mode! (See below for more details)

Quality of life improvements

  • Redesigned title screen
  • Re-illustrated backgrounds
  • Entering battles no longer makes the screen flash white
  • Entities that shuffle are now bound to the grid, which might not sound like it would make the game more enjoyable in a million little ways, but I assure you it does.
  • Flungus (The bouncy mushrooms) that send you backwards are now RED for clarity’s sake. 
  • Several small difficulty balances throughout.
  • Your legumi actually faces away when moving north!

Bug fixes

  • Finding all the wisdom houses in an area, then saving and quitting no longer renders your safe file unloadable. (whoops, sorry about that one especially)
  • Game no longer autosaves in the tutorial, erasing any progress.
  • The edges of Lenora Bay now don’t let you swim outside the level (Though I was very tempted to leave this one in)
  • When you save and quit next to a wisdom house, and then load your game and enter it before the title screen music has faded out, when you exit the wisdom house, the level you’re on will play the title screen music. I didn’t actually fix this one because it’s harmless and silly, just letting you know I found it. 

A substantial new mode: Champion’s Labyrinth!

Once you beat the game after finding all 20 unique treasures, you’ll be able to start a new game in “Champion’s Labyrinth” mode! This is a new game+ feature inspired by trend of old games getting randomizers.

The normal exits to each area are closed, instead replaced by four exits labelled with the cardinal directions. Each area in the game (and a couple exclusive ones,) have been randomly slotted into a grid. The goal is no longer to visit every wisdom house so that you can make your way through each level, but to visit ENOUGH wisdom houses and make your way out of the Champion’s Labyrinth.


I hope you all have fun with the new version. Note that old save files won't work with the new version, (and will just crash the game,) but I've future-proofed it so that won't be an issue going forward.
