A downloadable game for Windows

I'm not taking any money for this game, however if you'd like to support my work, you might be interested in Legumi

Edmontonian Slapp can best be described as Edmonton-Smash Bros-Astroids-Hockey. It's a multiplayer party game like Smash Bros, but the characters are all Edmontonian icons, and instead of fighting you play hockey, and the controls for the hockey are a bit like Astroids with the thrusting and rotating.

Skate around, grab the puck, and shoot it into the opponents goal as many times as possible before the time runs out. The goals have a boundary around them, and if anyone from the opposing team is inside the boundary, the goal will close up, so you need to shoot from a bit of a distance

You can tackle opponents (and teammates) to make them drop the puck and/or send them flying.

CONTROLS

  • A & D / left & right / or gamepad analogue stick: Rotate facing direction
  • W / up / gamepad thrust button: skate in facing direction
  • S / down / gamepad brake button: Brake
  • Shift / M / or gamepad slapp button: Hold to aim puck, and release to shoot it.

(There are two keyboard setups for when there aren't enough connected gamepads, but the game prioritizes gamepad play.)

MANEUVERS

  • The Scoot - Tapping the brake button while sliding will "scoot" your character so that they instantly start moving in the direction they're facing at the cost of a bit of speed.
  • The Drift - Rotating while braking while moving will send you twirling in a large circle, great for tackling and adjusting trajectory quickly without sacrificing any speed
  • The Slam Dunk - Quickly tapping the slapp button will loose the puck with almost no speed. Most of the time, you'll just catch it again. But if you're moving quickly enough, it will sit mostly in place. A skilled player can drop the puck like this over the opponent's goal, and then skate out of the boundary to make the goal open, scoring a point.

TIPS

  • All the characters feel a bit different; experiment and find your favourite!
  • It can be tricky to aim at the goal while not moving, practice sliding adjacent to the goal, and releasing the slapp button when you're lined up.
  • The dinosaur is an edmontosaurus, she's not from anything. Neither is the magpie.

COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER

So, I have borrowed the likenesses of some real people, fictional characters, and corporate mascots entirely without permission. What can I say? I took a risk. It was the most Edmonton thing I could have done.

I make no money from this game, and it was only created as a silly, fun diversion; a statement of pride for my weird little hometown. However, if you  represent or are the copyright holder for any of the likenesses used in the game, I will honour requests for the characters to be changed or removed in future versions.

That being said, the orange edmontosaurus and the magpie are OC, do not steal. Thanks!

The photos are all from UnSplash. They were meant to be placeholders, but time makes fools of us all.

UPCOMING ADDITIONS

  • New modes
    • Teamless - A goal in each corner for every player. The object is not to score the most goals, but to have the least goals scored against you.
    • Horse - One goal, no boundary. Most points at time wins, goals are worth more points the farther they were scored from.
    • Butt Goal - Same as Teamless, but the goals have no boundary and are dragged behind each player
    • Battle -No puck! Tackling a player knocks their ghost out, and their lifeless, shrunken, upside-down body can be shot like a puck. Ghosts can still tackle, and if they get back to their body they can get back into it. Fireballs also appear that can be caught and shot to knock ghosts out as well. Whoever stays in their body the longest at time wins!
